The Houston Rockets was founded in 1967 in San Diego, California as an expansion team. They got their nickname from the rocket and missile program being developed in the area. With their early superstar Elvin Hayes, the Rockets appeared in the playoffs for the first time in 1969. The team later relocated to Houston in 1971. The Rockets have won 4 division titles, 4 conference titles and 2 championships.
The Rockets’ home turf, Houston, is known for its many skyscrapers. One of its most famous is the Chase Tower, easily the city’s landmark, offering a stunning view of the surrounding area. Some of the buildings that help define Houston’s skyline are the Houston City Hall, the Nina Vance Alley Theater, the JP Morgan Chase Tower and the Oscar F. Holcombe Civic Center.
