The Indiana Pacers was formed in 1967. Their nickname is an homage to the state’s wide use of pace cars in the Indianapolis 500. That, coupled with an investor’s love for horse racing, helped in the decision of naming the team. Early on, the Pacers set out to show what they were made off and promptly won 3 American Basketball Association championships within 4 years. They later joined the NBA after the ABA merger in 1976 and made their first playoff appearance in the 1980-81 season. They have won 4 division titles and 1 conference title in the NBA. The Pacers are also known for their mascot Boomer, one of NBA’s most recognizable and well-loved mascots.
The Pacers play for Indianapolis, Indiana, a city that is home to some of the most impressive landmarks in the U.S. One of these is the Admiral Raymond Spruance Memorial Basin, a natural landmark that’s popular among tourists. The city is also home to many cultural and historical treasures, such as the Indiana State House, the Huddleston Farmhouse, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the Morris-Butler House and the former house of President Benjamin Harrison.
