The Atlanta Hawks was founded in 1946 and were first known as the Buffalo Bisons. Moving to Moline, Illinois, the team was renamed Tri-Cities Blackhawks, in honor of the Black Hawk War in Illinois. They were one of the first 17 teams that came under the umbrella of the NBA after the merger of NBL and BAA in 1949. They later moved to Milwaukee, becoming the Milwaukee Hawks and later, to St. Louis in Missouri. The Hawks were sold in 1968 and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, which is now their home turf.
The Hawks play their home games at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, a city known for its metropolitan appeal. Atlanta is famous for its many landmarks, such as the Georgia Dome, Stone Mountain Park, Centennial Olympic Park, Martin Luther King Jr. Center and the historic Sweet Auburn district.
