The Detroit Tigers was established in 1894 and became a member of the Western League. They first entered the major league as the Detroit Wolverines winning one exhibition World Series and the National League pennant in 1887. After getting disbanded and undergoing a hiatus, the team was formed once again in 1894 and became the Tigers, after the nickname of the military unit of the Detroit Light Guard. They have won 10 American League pennants and celebrated victory in the World Series four times.
The Tiger’s home turf, Detroit, is the Midwest’s oldest city, which explains why it has numerous monuments.
