Americans had their experience of the Kansas City Royals in 1969, playing successfully against the Minnesota Twins. They were an expansion franchise established by local businessman Ewing Kauffman, following the relocation of the Kansas City Athletics to Oakland, California. The Royals obtained their name from a rodeo and livestock show, the American Royal. The name may have also been a nod to the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro League. The Royals made it twice to the World Series, winning once in 1985. They initially played their home games in the Municipal Stadium and later moved to the Kauffman Stadium, formerly known as Royals Stadium.

Kansas City, Missouri is the home base of the Royals. It is famous for its buildings, many of which were designed and built by the most important architects and construction firms in the world. In fact, some of the best examples of the Art Deco movement in architecture can be found here. The city’s most famous landmarks include the Jackson County Courthouse, the Municipal Auditorium, the Kansas City Power and Light Building, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Liberty Memorial, Smoky Hills and Flint Hills. Kansas City also boasts three buildings built by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
