It seemed that Colorado would not be enjoying the presence of a major league baseball team until the Colorado Rockies was finally formed in 1991. The Rockies immediately got to work, playing their first game ever against the New York Mets in 1993. The team had some difficulties initially but they eventually emerged with 67 wins after their first season. They also gained plenty of followers, as evidenced by the number of people who came to watch them play. Although the Rockies suffered from several losing seasons, they bounced back by winning their first National League pennant in 2007. The team’s name is taken from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Colorado, the Rockies’ home, is one of the most beautiful and photographed landscapes in the U.S. Thirty of the highest Rocky Mountains Summit in North America can be found in the area. There are numerous national parks, historic sites, trails, forests and monuments here. Other than its natural wonders, Colorado is also proud of its manmade structures, some of which are recognized as landmarks. These include the U.S. Mint, State Capitol, Larimer Square, Bent’s Old Fort and Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
