The Red Sox was established in 1901, one of the eight American League charter franchises. Right from the start, the Red Sox showed their force, winning the first World Series championship in 1903, playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. By 1918, the team had won four championships and won the World Series title again in 2004. The Red Sox was so-named because of the red hose or stockings the players wore as their uniform. They are considered as one of the most successful teams in Major League Baseball in the last decade.
Boston is home to the Red Sox. Many of its landmarks are associated with events that shaped the United States.
