The Cincinnati Reds is the first professional team in baseball. They began their career as a team in 1882, when they became a charter member of the American Association. They were initially known as the Cincinnati Red Stockings, winning the inaugural season of the AA in 1882 and the World Series in 1919. They won the World Series title again in 1940, 1975, 1976 and 1990. Their name was changed from Red Stockings to just Reds around 1890. The team always begins a regular season with a home game, playing at the Great American Ball Park.
Cincinnati, Ohio, the Reds’ hometown, has a long history being a center for American commerce.
