The Florida Marlins is a relatively young team, having been established only in 1993 as an expansion franchise. However, they have more than made for it, winning both times they played in the World Series (1997 and 2003). They drafted their initial player lineup in 1992 and won their very first game played with the Dodgers. Their name is based on a popular species of fish.
The team is based in Miami, Florida. Miami is a world-famous city known not just for its commercial, financial and cultural importance but also for its impact on film, media, fashion, music and the arts. The city is also a tourist magnet, thanks to its many festivals, special events and beautiful beaches. It is also the perfect destination for history buffs who come to see many of Miami’s cultural landmarks, including the famous Freedom Tower. Miami is a hot city – both figuratively and literally. Due to the humid weather, the Marlins play majority of their games during summer nights.
