The Giants is San Francisco’s pride and joy, enjoying the distinction of not only being one of the oldest teams in MLB but also the team that has the most success in their games, winning the World Series five times. In 1883, the Giants joined the National League as the Gothams. Due to their early success, owner Jim Mutrie was said to have referred to his players as his ‘big fellows’ and ‘giants’ – hence the team’s name. The team used to play in New York City but later moved to San Francisco.
The Giants call San Francisco home. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the U.S., famous of its steep hills and beloved cable cars. It is, in fact, the inspiration to several popular songs. It also boasts of a diverse and colorful local culture, making it quite distinct from other cities in America. Some of its most popular landmarks include Alcatraz Island, Union Square, the Presidio, the Ferry Building and of course, the Golden Gate Bridge, the symbol for the city itself.
