The Cardinals were established in 1882 and were initially known as the St. Louis Brown Stockings. In the next six years since, they won four American Association pennants from 1885 to 1888. In 1885, they played against the Chicago White Stockings (the Chicago Cubs today) in what would later become the World Series. The Brown Stockings won but the result was disputed. This marked the beginning of the rivalry between Chicago and St. Louis that remains to this day. In 1899, the Brown Stockings changed their name to ‘Perfectos’ and shortly after, to the ‘Cardinals’. They hold the second most number of World Series championship titles in Major League Baseball.
The Cardinals’ home turf is St. Louis, Missouri. The city is known for its numerous parks, including Forest Park, which is larger than Central Park. Many of its famous landmarks are not just a favorite hangout of Cardinals fans in their sports hats, they are also tourist magnets. These landmarks include the Missouri Botanical Garden, Tower Grove Park, the Woodsy English Garden, the CityGarden and Cathedral Basilica. St. Louis, however, is known best for the Gateway Arch, which is a portion of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.
