The franchise for the Astros was obtained in 1962 by the now-defunct Continental League. The then-new team was known as the Colt .45s and began their first season on the same year, playing against the Chicago Cubs. Initially, they played their games at the Colt Stadium but later moved in 1965 to the newly constructed domed stadium named the Astrodome. Their new home also gave the team their new name: the Astros. Since 2000, the team has played home games at Enron Field, now known as the Minute Maid Park.
The Astros are based in Houston, Texas, one of the largest cities in the U.S. Houston is popular in the area as a center for commerce, visual and performing arts and music. Some of its famous landmarks include the Houston Grand Opera, Space Center Houston, Old Market Square, the Galleria and over 300 parks.
